Salzburg Marathon Interview

You are organizing Salzburg Marathon on the 3rd of May 2015. Can you tell us where your event is located and how runners are able to travel there easily?

Both the starting and the finishing area are located directly in the historic centre of Salzburg. The easiest way to reach Salzburg is by train and then taking a bus directly to the starting area of the Salzburg Marathon. If you travel to Salzburg  by car, we suggest you park your car either in “Altstadt“ garages or at the periphery of the city and continuing from there by bus.

Are there different distances in your event?

We have the following distances available at the event: Marathon, Sparkasse Half Marathon, 10K Salzburg City-Run, 5K Fun Run, Coca-Cola Junior Marathon (on Saturday), CUP&CINO Breakfast Run (on Saturday) and several team rankings.

Tell us something about the history of your event. Why was it created in the first place and how has it changed over the years?

Salzburg Marathon took place for the first time in 2004. Since then, the event has grown: more participants, more professionalism, optimized course, more different competitions and a better social program.

Describe your route a bit. How’s the scenery? Is the route beginner friendly? Can runners expect PB’s?

The beautiful 21.1 kilometre-long course (two laps for the marathon) is absolutely flat (maximal vertical drop of 10 metres). Therefore, PB’s can be expect. All the participants directly pass some of the most beautiful sights of Mozart’s hometown. The starting and finishing areas are located directly in the historic centre of Salzburg, which belongs to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The scenery is overwhelming.

How many runners do you expect to have in your event?

Last year, 6792 participants from 60 different nation registered for Salzburg Marathon. We expect at least the same number of participants for 2014, possibly a few more, because the Austrian National Marathon Championships will take place at Salzburg Marathon.

What kind of weather conditions can runners prepare to face in your event?

We hope for ideal conditions: dry weather, comfortable temperatures and a fine cloud cover.

What else runners should do in the city after/before the race? Any suggestions to newcomers?

Salzburg is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and offers a lots of sights to visitors. Salzburg is especially known for its great history in culture and music and these give the Salzburg Marathon its special flair.

How would you describe your event to people who haven’t yet participated in it? What makes your event unique?

Discover the most beautiful places of Salzburg during a running event together with thousands of runners from 60 different nations all over the world and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Salzburg Marathon.

Anything else you want to tell about your event?
