Mountain to Valley Relay Race - A Trail Run of 215 km in Israel

Mar 4, 2016

You are organizing the Mountain to Valley Relay Race in Northern Israel on May 18th -20th 2016. Tell us a little bit about the event's nature - what makes it unique? Why should runners participate in it?

The Mountain to Valley Relay Race is a relay race over approximately 215 km, crossing the most beautiful regions of Israel. It passes through rural areas and communities that reflect the multicultural richness of Israel.

What is the scenery like?

The route is very diverse with a mixture of moderately hilly and flat terrain, crossing the northern part of the country, passing by the biblical Sea of Galilee and the bird watching haven of the Hula Valley, and running along the Jordan River. The varying difficulty along the route allows teams to consist of stronger and weaker runners. Runners can choose the legs they run based on whether they prefer the easier, flatter and shorter legs or steeper and longer legs. Runners have particularly liked the scenery, the social experience, the uniqueness of running both during the day and night and the high level of organization. The race offers runners both an athletic and cultural experience and a unique opportunity to interact with the local communities.

Where is your event located and how are runners able to travel there easily?

The event covers the northern part of Israel. A car is required for the event because of the large distance covered over the course of the race. In 2016 we are expecting 8500 runners divided into about 1050 teams. So you will definitely not be the only one traveling to Israel for the race!

When was the race held for the first time?

The race took place for the first time in 2009. Some of the organizers participated in a similar event in the USA and immediately got the idea to set up a similar event in Israel. The race has grown in participation, while the level of organization has maintained its very high quality and the event is still known as one of the best races in Israel.

What kind of weather conditions should runners expect to face in your event?

Runners will experience warm to hot daytime temperatures, while the evenings and nighttime hours are rather cool.

What else should runners do in the city after/before the race?

As the race covers a large potion of northern Israel runners can visit the numerous religious and historical sites in the region, enjoy nature reserves, do some bird watching or visit the many colorful communities in the region.

Anything else you want to tell about your event?

The event is a very unique way to experience the many facets of Israel, Israelis and Israeli communities. It will be an experience like no other, which will not be forgotten!
