You are organizing the Arctic Tough Viking on the 14th of March 2015. Can you tell us where your event is located and how runners are able to travel there easily?

The Arctic Tough Viking is organized at Levi, right by the main slopes of the ski resort. Levi is easy to reach by flying to Kittilä, from where the airport bus will take you to Levi in 15 minutes. By train you can travel to Kolari or Rovaniemi, and then travel the rest of the way easily by bus or your own car if you chose to travel by car-carrier train. You can also reach Levi by car. However, as the trip is quite long if you are coming all the way from the south, we recommend taking the train or flying.

Are there different distances in your event?

The event has one distance. The route is about 5 km long and the difference in altitude along the route is up to 250 metres.

Tell us something about the history of your event. Why was it created in the first place and how has it changed over the years?

Tough Viking was organized for the first time in Stockholm in 2013. The first Tough Viking in Finland was organized in September 2014. The first event attracted over 2 000 participants in the sunny Kaisaniemi, in Helsinki. At Levi several obstacles will be built using snow and ice. There will also be obstacles typical for the Tough Viking races at Levi.

Describe your route a bit. How is the scenery? Is the route beginner friendly? Can runners expect PB’s?

The route winds its way in the surrounding are of the main slopes as well as on the slopes. The participants can enjoy the fell landscapes and the nature of Lapland. The difference in altitude will be 250 metres at its best. Some of the obstacles are on the top of the slopes and some on the slopes. Anyone who is healthy and in basic physical condition can participate in the event. Often the runners who are obstacle run enthusiasts participate in the so-called competition series and take part in the early morning start groups.

How many runners do you expect to have in your event?

We are expecting 500-1000 runners to Levi.

What else runners should do and see in the city before/after the race?

At the close vicinity of the Arctic Tough Viking route you will find diverse services: you can visit a spa, have a massage or a facial, enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the great restaurants Levi has to offer or come and celebrate at the Arctic Tough Viking after party at the Hullu Poro Arena.

How would you describe your event to people who haven’t yet participated in it? What makes your event unique?

Arctic Tough Viking is the world’s northernmost Extreme obstacle run race. Snow and ice add extra suspense and challenge to the obstacles. There is also a touch of northern magic.
