What kind of trainee programs MyNextRun offers? Laura shares her experience as trainee at MyNextRun's Customer Success Team.
Here we are, the second last day of my internship and I was asked to tell about my experiences here at MyNextRun. Five months of internship have gone by quicker than I expected. I have to say it is nice to go back to university but it is even nicer that I can keep working here as a part-time employee.
So, I am Laura, a 21 years old Business student from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and I am majoring in HRM. I started searching for a trainee position last spring hoping to get one for autumn. I scrolled our university’s recruitment system and MyNextRun’s add was actually the last one I applied for. It captured my attention especially because of the international working environment and the company’s focus. A running related business felt like my kind of thing as I have been running for almost 10 years, although shorter distances.
I sent in my application and it did not take too long until I was already starting my internship. I remember the add saying that the intern should start as soon as possible so I thought that if I can start almost right away no one else has the chance to take my place! After the interview I was convinced that the job was made for me and no one else could steal it from me. I started my internship before the term was over and every once in a while I had to run to the university in order to do some tests or group assignments. Thanks to my great team and flexible working hours I was able to do this!
At the office I am in charge of the customer service in all possible languages, mainly Finnish, English and Swedish. Sometimes I also get messages in Greek or Polish so I have to admit that occasionally I need to rely on Google Translate, although it does not always help that much! In addition I also take care of our online shop orders and updating our event calendar, so please let me know if there is an event missing from the calendar!
The right, hard-working attitude and patience help with carrying out the tasks. It became very clear, already during the first days, that there was more than enough work to be done so a can-do attitude was essential. Maybe the best things during my internship were the various projects and workshops that I was able to take part in. Going to different running events and interviewing the runners was definitely one of the most interesting tasks. It was great to meet our customers and to hear their thoughts about our service.
One of the great things here is that if you are active and willing to do more than simply your daily tasks, you will definitely have the chance to do this. This made my working days more motivating. It has also been interesting to follow the company’s development. A lot has happened during the five months that I have been here and seeing all this has maybe been the most educational thing during my internship. It has also given me a slight insight in to what it actually takes to create a well-functioning service.
Lastly I have to say something about the crazy MyNextRun team. The good thing about working in a small company and an open office is that you really get to know your co-workers. You see and hear them all time, and no one in this office can avoid hearing our crazy Italian sales guy make deals. I think I have actually even learned some Italian during these discussions! If for some reason this bothers you, you can always put your music loud enough so that you can’t event hear when someone actually has something to say to you and just keep happily jamming to your music.
This is how we roll here and I’m definitely happy for the chance to continue working with this great team! :)
