We highly recommend considering these to ease up your travel on the island during the event, as most of the pre-race activity (briefings, talks, race number collection etc) will centre on our partner hotel.

The Kreipe abduction

On the night of 26 April 1944, British SOE agents and Cretan resistance fighters risk the unthinkable: the abduction of the commander of Nazi occupation forces in Crete, General Heinrich Kreipe, from right under the noses of the Germans. Disguised as German military policemen, they stop the General's car on its way from military HQ to his private residence.

One of the most legendary operations of World War II begins.

Over the next 20 days, the team moves through rough mountainous terrain under the vail of darkness, pursued by 30,000 enemy troops. They haul their victim over snow-covered Mt Ida, through olive groves and goat trails to the evacuation beach at Peristeres.

Heroes Ultra is their escape route through the stunning mountain ranges of central Crete.
