The Greeks show their appreciation to the runners by giving them small branches from olive trees, the tree of wisdom, the tree of Goddess Athena, the protector of Athens according to Greek mythology! The crowds from Marathonas and all the way to Athens provide a spiritual experience to the runners as their voices echoe from history!”
