Run on the banks of Danube

Situated on the banks of the Danube River, Budapest, also known as the Paris of the East, is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. The city offers its visitors some magnificent bridges, unforgettable architecture, unique history and thermal springs. Although Budapest has transformed into a modern metropolis over the past few decades, it has not lost its charm but has maintained a strong connection with its history and past. Budapest is the most popular tourist destination in Hungary.

The Danube splits the city into two parts, Buda and Pest. Pest is the modern part of the city and the center of politics and finance. Many of the historical buildings and sights are situated in the calmer Buda area. Budapest has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987 because of its architectural and cultural significance. Budapest is filled with architectural masterpieces, such as the Buda caste, the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Mathias Church and the impressive Parliament Building among others. Budapest is also the center of a significant amount of thermal springs and the city’s fame as a European Spa location is spreading wider.

One of the most magnificent sights is of course the Danube River which runs through the city. Especially by night the river, mirroring the lights of the city, is an impressive sight. Cruises on the river are a popular way to get to know the city, but runners can enjoy the beautiful sights on a marathon or half marathon that goes through the city.
