Volksbank Münster Marathon

From start to finish there are over 300 artists and acts: bands, drummers, walkers on stilts and lots more. Over 100.000 excited spectators push you on. In 2014 there were about 8.000 runners from 34 nations all over the world.

Route description:

In regards to its records (Men: 2h:10m:25s; Women 2h:29m:12s), the Volksbank-Münster-Marathon belongs to the fastest marathons of Germany. For ambitious runners a pacemaker will be invited who guarantees a time of 2:30 hour – a novelty that is unique in Germany.

The course in Muenster is flat and a mixture of town with a historical heritage and a beautiful landscape. The start is again at the height of the castle at Schlossplatz. The route leads you through the attractive old town and by the Aasee. Around Nienberge can runners enjoy a scenic bit in Roxel direction. From there the course goes back over Gievenbeck cathedral in the historic center, on the flagged principal market. The finish is in front of the town hall of the Peace of Westphalia. Over 300 artists along the way give a special touch to this marathon.
The distance is measured by the DLV officially AIMS. A blue line shows the ideal line and thus the route.

Refreshment stations:

There are 17 refreshment stations starting from km 5 at every 2,5 km. There are alternating stations with water and stations with water, bananas, oranges, isotonic drinks and Coca Cola (from km 22).

Venue facilities:

Dressing rooms, warm showers and the possibility to leave clothing bags are nearby the start and the finish in a school (High school Paulinum, Stadtgraben 44, D-48143 Muenster). There is also a marathon fair, a pasta party and an after-run-party.

About the event:

The mixture of the Volksbank-Muenster-Marathon with its historical tradition and the beauty of the scenic countryside is a marathon that should not be missed. Feelings of happiness, feelings of a public festival, experience – all these words reflect the atmosphere of the marathon. This distinctive vibe, in particular at the different power points along the course and the three final kilometers right before the finish line – through the historic city center that is filled with thousands of enthusiastic spectators, is one of five unique features of the Volksbank-Münster-Marathon which belongs to the TOP 10 biggest German marathons ever since its premiere in 2002. Muenster Marathon is the seventh largest marathon in Germany.

Until 15th May: 50 €
Until 1st August: 60 €
After 1st August: 70 €

How to get there?

Highway 1, exit Muenster North or Muenster South; the airport Muenster-Osnabrueck is not far away (25km or 30 minutes with the car).

Timing:

The race is only scored by using the ChampionChip system. If you have no Real-Time-ChampionChip you will receive a chip from us. A deposit of 30 € in cash when you pick up your
start number. After returning the Champion-Chip (only on the day of the event), we will pay back 25 €. The difference of 5 € is the rental fee.

Additional info:

The entry fee includes a finisher shirt, a special finisher medal and a film documentation. Muenster offers great emotions because of 100.000 spectators and 300 acts (bands, cheerleader, dance-groups, comedian) – a very special party marathon.
